New Cria Dolcetto wih Brunello
Well, I was a lot less stressed this time round. Diana’s cria arrived at 9.10 am on Monday, October 7, two days ahead of its due date and weighing 7.5 kilos. It is another boy and to my great delight he isn’t white but a lovely mid fawn/rose grey colour with a couple of little white patches on his adorable little face. He has huge black eyes and the longest eyelashes imaginable.
Continuing the wine theme ( we are La Vigna Alpacas you know!) we have named him Dolcetto and he is doing very well and playing with Brunello, the first cria who arrived on August 28 and so is quite the big boy now!
The birth was very straightforward and unlike Brunello, Dolcetto seemed to be very hungry and ate from Diana straight away. However, he did seem very weak and couldn’t stay on his feet for very long and I was a bit worried about this. I kept him in the stable overnight with Diana (the others were a bit miffed, especially as it was raining, but I figured his need was greater than theirs!) Anyway, in the morning he was absolutely fine and bright as a button. I guess he was very tired from the birth and also I was probably fussing too much!
So, one to go, the lovely Champagne is due on November 6th.
Nuova Cria Dolcetto con Brunello
Beh, questa volta mi sentivo molto meno nervosa. La cria di Diana è arrivata alle 9:10 di lunedì, 7 ottobre, due giorni dopo la data prevista. E’ un altro maschietto e pesa 7.5kg. Con mia grande gioia non è bianco, ma di un colore tra il fulvo chiaro e il grigio rosato, con un paio di piccole macchie bianche sul suo adorabile musetto. Ha due enormi occhi neri e le ciglia più lunghe che si possano immaginare.
Per continuare sul tema vinicolo (dopo tutto, noi siamo la Vigna Alpaca, no?) lo abbiamo chiamato Dolcetto, e già si diverte tanto a giocare con Brunello, la primo cria arrivata il 28 agosto, che quindi ormai è già grandicello!
Il parto è stato privo di complicazioni e, al contrario di Brunello, Dolcetto sembrava da subito molto affamato e ha iniziato a poppare da Diana immediatamente. Però sembrava anche molto debole e non riusciva a stare in piedi molto a lungo, il che mi preoccupava un po’. L’ho tenuto nella stalla con Diana la prima notte (gli altri erano un po’ nervosi, soprattutto perché pioveva, ma ho pensato che le esigenze del piccolo erano più importanti!) Ad ogni modo, la mattina seguente stava benissimo, fresco come una rosa. Suppongo che fosse solo stanco per il parto, e probabilmente ero io a preoccuparmi troppo!
Dunque, meno uno: adesso l’adorabile Champagne dovrebbe partorire il 6 novembre.
Well done Fiona (and Diana), Dolcetto is too cute for words. I love the little white patches on his face. He’s almost Bambi-like!
